Family Activity: Movie Discussions
In Acts 17 Paul was in Athens and he used a statue in their community as a way to start talking about God with the people who lived there. We will show four video clips from popular movies and ask the kids to explain how these clips could be used to explain the gospel to someone.
Cars - Lighting sacrificed his position as the leader to serve someone else who could not cross the finish line on their own because they were hurt by someone else’s sin. https://youtu.be/lPUL0Fqva5A
Frozen - Elsa sacrificed her life to save Anna. https://youtu.be/iSwL2GbRy4g
Narnia, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - Aslan the Lion sacrificed his life and came back to life in order to defeat the evil witch and rescue Edmond [clip doesn’t show that part]. https://youtu.be/VtTJfK4LpYM
Big Hero 6 - Baymax sacrifices himself to save Hiro. Later in the movie Baymax is resurrected in a new body. https://youtu.be/ylaSuM6CGsg
After each clip ask the children discuss in little groups with the people around them how we could start talking about the gospel using the clip. Have some of the groups share ideas. After showing the clips ask the kids for other suggestions of clips that show the same thing. Keep a list for future years.
Family Activity: Books of the Bible Game
This is a much loved game from the Orchard! Did you know that there are 27 books in the New Testament? If you Take 28 cups or blocks you can make a pyramid! Put the name of each New Testament book on one cup or block and write New Testament on the cup or block that will end up on top. Then stack! Take a look here for more info.
One Big Story - Memory Challenge - May
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” [Matthew 28:19]
