Family Activity: Brainstorm
Spend a couple minutes drawing a picture of a hockey player and then talking about their hockey gear, ask your children what each piece of gear is and how it protects the player. Like a soldier, the hockey player has one main offensive weapon - his stick. Compare this hockey gear to the armor of God.
Family Activity: Armor Making
Divide your family into two teams - maybe guys and girls. Give each team either some scrap paper or a couple rolls of toilet paper. Set a timer for 5 minutes and create armour. Take pictures and post on social media!
Family Activity: Conversation
As a family discuss a few real life situations and ask your kids to explain which parts of the armor can help them. [Emphasize how some of the defensive armor apply to each of these scenarios, but how the offensive sword applies to them all.]
A situation where they could lie or tell the truth.
A situation where they are tempted to do something wrong.
A situation where someone asks questions about who Jesus is.
A situation where someone invites them to make a bad decision.
Family Activity: Books of the Bible Game
This is a much loved game from the Orchard! Did you know that there are 27 books in the New Testament? If you Take 28 cups or blocks you can make a pyramid! Put the name of each New Testament book on one cup or block and write New Testament on the cup or block that will end up on top. Then stack! Take a look here for more info.
One Big Story - Memory Challenge
“… Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus...” [Hebrews 12:1b-2a]
