Warm-up. Share a favourite wedding memory for you. Read Ephesians 5:21-33 Pray God blesses your study time.

  1. Why do you think Satan is so against marriage?

  2. What are some of the sources of our marriage expectations? How do expectations (or unspoken ones) affect our marriages?

  3. What do Genesis 2:23-24 and Mark 10:6-9 tell us about God’s view of marriage? How does this differ from the world’s view? How does our view of God and His Word affect our trust in His expectations for our marriage?

  4. Read Ephesians 4:20-24 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-21. What do these passages reveal about the first key to expressing the covenant of marriage in ever renewing ways? Regarding Jonathan Edwards’ saying, “If you idolize, you will demonize,” what do you think of the danger of making your spouse your functional saviour (instead of Jesus alone)?

  5. Which of the other keys to expressing the covenant of marriage in ever renewing ways resonated with you and why?

  6. If you are married, what has been the hardest thing for you to sacrifice and why? How has your spouse loved you through sacrifice? How has the mutual investment of love increased your admiration and devotion for each other?

  7. How is the marriage covenant a display of the gospel (Ephesians 5:32)? How does this give purpose and hope for marriage? In light of Revelation 12:11 is your life and marriage a testimony or a biography?

Pray for your marriage and for the marriages of others.
