REFLECT AND DISCUSS

Warm-up. What kinds of things do we - individually and collectively - usually pray for? Read Luke 11:1-13. Ask God to bless your study & fellowship.

1. After salvation, prayer is the primary activity of faith, do you agree or disagree (why)? If prayer is the primary activity of faith, what does the state of your prayer-life say about your faith?

2. Why is the ‘word of Christ’ (Romans 10:17) so important to your faith? How has God’s Word enhanced your prayer-life?

3. Jesus implies by the parable in Luke 11:5-8 that God is like a friend (Exodus 33:11a). In Luke 15 he is like a forgiving father. What other aspects of God’s character do the teachings of Jesus reveal to us that we should apply to our prayer life?

4. What cause and effect connection did Jesus use to follow up on the parable? (Luke 11:9-10) How do most parents respond to their children’s requests? (Luke11:11-12) Why do parents usually grant their children’s requests? (Luke 11:13) How is God the Father like and unlike human fathers?

5. What do we learn about the heart of prayer through the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son (John 5:19)? Is prayer a means to help us grow strong and independent of God, or is prayer meant to increase our dependence on God?

6. What is the purpose of prayer? What new (or renewed) insights from Sunday can you apply to your prayer life?
