Reflection & Discussion

Warm-up. Share what you tend to worry most about.

Read Matthew 6:25-34 Ask God to bless your study.

1. Jesus commands us not to be anxious in v. 25. He then lays out why we shouldn’t worry. What are the reasons?

2. Read vv.19-24. How does this passage connect to vv. 25-34?

3. Jesus says that living for materialism (the here and now only) will cause us to be anxious and worry. How have you seen this in your life? What can you do to prevent this from happening?

4. Earlier, in v. 20 Jesus mentioned treasures in heaven. What is heavenly treasure? (See 2 Cor. 4:18 and 2 Peter 3:10-14.)

5. Jesus tells us to look and to consider the reality of his sovereign provision with regards to birds and flowers. What are some practical ways you can frequently do this in your own life?

6. In v. 33 Jesus gives the antidote to anxiety. What does it mean to seek first the kingdom of God? How is this a cure for anxiety and worry? Why is it so hard for us to do it?

7. How would your life look different tomorrow if you determined, in Christ’s power, to seek first the kingdom of God in all things?
