Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. Spiritually speaking, what have been some of the best and hardest changes in your life?
Read Ephesians 4:11-32 Ask God to bless your study.
1. Personal defects are hard to change because: (1) You’ve had them for so long (2) You identify with them (3) Every defect has a payoff, and (4) Satan (the accuser) opposes you. Read 2 Corinthians 3:18 and discuss how God’s Spirit help us overcome these?
2. Change begins with new thinking. How do we change the way we think according to Ephesians 4:23 and Romans 12:2?
3. Ephesians 4:14-15 says that the key to avoid being tossed about by lies is by “holding the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ.” Discuss how Scripture helps us do that according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
4. God gifted some to serve so his Body would change, mature and grow strong. Read Ephesians 4:11-13 and 2 Timothy 2:2. Faster change requires a mentor/coach. What do these verses say about mentoring? Talk about the benefit you have received from a coach or mentor or where you have mentored others.
5. Spiritual change ultimately requires faith; what does Ephesians 3:20 say God’s power can do? How much more can we do as a result of God’s power at work within us? In what ways will you believe this and put it in to practise this week?
6. Real change requires house cleaning in our mind and actions. This week pray Ephesians 4:22 and Hebrews 12:1 and ask God to show you what you need to get rid of or move away from because it’s keeping you from making changes.
