Read: Genesis 28:10-22. Ask God to bless your study.

1. In using such descriptors as ‘a certain place’ (no name), using a ‘stone for a pillow’, and that the ‘sun had set’ (Gen 28:10-11), what message do you think the writer of the Book of Genesis wants to get across about the state of Jacob at that time?

2. List and discuss the promises God made to Jacob at Bethel (Genesis 28:13-15).

3. What does a Holy God coming down to stansd lovingly over and bless a lying deceiver like Jacob say about God?

4. How would you respond to someone who believed that Jesus is merely a good example to follow, to be good and moral.

5. What did Jesus mean in John 1:51? How is he like the stairway between heaven and earth that Jacob saw (John 14:6; 1 Timothy 2:5)?

6. What attitudes and beliefs about the Lord do Jacob’s words and actions show in Genesis 28:16-22? Should Christians make vows to God like the one Jacob made? Why or why not?
