Warm-up. What signs of spring have you seen?

Read: 1 Cor 9:19-23. Ask God to bless your study.

1. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of St. Patrick’s Day? Have you learned something new about it? What may have surprised you about St. Patrick?

2. What made Patrick return to his childhood faith? How did he return to his homeland (Britain)? What happened once there?

3. Why did Patrick return to Ireland? What do you imagine this was like for him? How was he received when he returned?

4. Share what you know about ancient Celtic beliefs / practices.

5. How do you think Patrick’s enslavement impacted and shaped his ability to serve as a priest and missionary in Ireland?

6. How was Patrick’s conviction and mission in going to and serving in Ireland similar to the Apostle Paul’s (1 Cor. 9:19-23)?

7. What can we gain from Patrick’s story in our being missional within our culture today in reaching others with the gospel?

BONUS: Why is the shamrock connected to St. Patrick? Why are analogies about clover, three forms of water, etc. ultimately erroneous to use in teaching about the Holy Trinity?
