Read: 2 Cor. 8:12-14; 9:6-15 Pray for your study!
1. Why do you think people get nervous when a pastor talks about money and generosity?
2. Should we give even when we don’t feel like it? Isn’t that legalism? What kind of giver most pleases God (2 Cor. 9:7)? What are some things you are thankful for today?
3. According to 2 Corinthians 9:8,11, why is God generous toward us? How does our generosity bring glory to God?
4. Is it okay for a Christian to be financially well off? Why or why not? How can we know where to draw the line on wealth? At what point do we violate Jesus’ command not to lay up treasures on earth (Matt. 6:19-21)? How does Matt 6:33 help?
5. Read Mark 14:3-11. What is your honest response to the scandalous generosity of the woman anointing Jesus? Who would you most likely resemble in the room?
6. How does Jesus’ call to generosity challenge our instincts about a scarcity mindset, or financial self-preservation?
7. How do you feel about Malachi 3:8-10?
8. How does the gospel (2 Corinthians 8:9) provide us with the motivation and the ability to keep ourselves from the love of money and to be content and generous with what we have?
