Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. You a fan of winter? Why or why not?
Read: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. Ask God to bless your study.
1. According to Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 and 1 Peter 4:8, what are some of the benefits found in friendship?
2. Share how true Christian friendship and fellowship has served as a “backstop” for your faith in a season of struggle.
3. What would you say are some of the challenges in endeavouring to be a ‘constant’ and ‘compassionate’ friend?
4. Read Prov. 27:5-6. Perhaps there was a time when a friend spoke truth into your life and, though it stung at first, you soon realized the truth was for your good. Share what that was like.
5. Carefully read Matthew 18:15-17; Hebrews 3:12-13; Luke 17:3-4; 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15; and James 5:19-20. Discuss your observations from these passages as related to giving the blessing of being ‘candid’ with a friend in loving humility.
6. In light of James 5:19-20, explain how you think Christians should provide friendship to you when your heart is beat down and fragile, and you feel unable to pray and access God’s word for yourself.
7. Ultimately, how does Jesus words in John 15:13-15 help you to be a good friend to others?
