Warm-up. What have you found to be most helpful and most challenging so far in this Money Matters series?
Read: Luke 19:1-10
Pray God blesses your study time together.
Who are those in society today that are morally repugnant to most Christians? How do you feel about Jesus being so loving and accepting toward a similarly despised person (Zacchaeus)?
How do overly moralistic, self-righteous Christians potentially keep others from seeing Jesus? How does being overly concerned about what others may say or think keep a person from coming to Jesus? Can you relate to either barrier, or both?
How did Jesus’ interaction with Zacchaeus show the proper order of the gospel of grace as opposed to religiosity?
What evidence of true change (salvation coming to his house) do we see in Zacchaeus, especially regarding his wealth?
How do you feel about Jesus making a way for you to come down from the tree of death because he climbed up the cursed tree for you (Deuteronomy 21:22-23, Galatians 3:13), paying the great debt of your sin by dying in your place?
Knowing that Jesus, though he was rich (2 Corinthians 8:9), became poor for you (giving 100%) so you might become rich, how does this affect your attitude toward money / generosity?
Pray that this series on money matters will truly help us grow in Christ-like generosity / contentment that reaches our families, classmates, co-workers and neighbours with God’s rich love.
