Warm-up. Name a favourite song and share why it’s a favourite. Read Ephesians 6:16 Pray God blesses your study.
Read Romans 10:17, Hebrews 11:6, 2 Corinthians 5:7, Romans 1:17, 1 John 5:4, Hebrews 11:1, and 1 Peter 1:8. How would you define faith after reading these verses? Share your thoughts on the FAITH acronym.
Explain what you think "the flaming arrows of the evil one" (v. 16) are and how faith can extinguish them.
Can you recall a time in your life when the shield of faith effectively protected you? Which arrows of appetite, avarice, and arrogance have given you the most trouble? Explain how genuine faith in God and his truth helped to extinguish them.
In what ways and in what areas of your life has the devil tried to weaken your trust in God and his Word?
What are some areas in your life where your shield seems fragile or even broken? What arrows are getting through? Are there some holes that need mending? How will you mend them?
How can you lean on the Holy Spirit’s help in doing battle for the kingdom of God each day? How can you encourage another Christian in his or her spiritual battles?
Pray that God will help you to grasp these important truths so that you can victoriously live them out to the glory of God.
