Warm-up. What are you most looking forward to in 2020? Read Jonah 1:1-5. Ask God to bless your study.

  1. Prior to the call to go to Nineveh, what experience had Jonah had with the Lord that should have given him the will and confidence to go to Nineveh immediately (2 Kings 14:25)?

  2. In what ways have you found that ignoring God’s call, or running from it, brings you down? Why do you think the Lord’s command to share the gospel with others is easier to ignore than other commands in Scripture?

  3. What experiences of the Lord’s power have you had? How might such experiences fuel greater courage to share the gospel to the most oppositional unbeliever in your life?

  4. Have you ever felt the mind-numbing, soul-emptying exhaustion of trying to live without God? If so, what was that like and how did you turn around? How has running from God proven to be costly for you and hurtful to those around you?

  5. Read Jesus’ words in Matthew 12:40-41and discuss how Jesus is the greater Jonah for us. How does this truth help us to gladly run to God instead of running from him?
