Warm-up. What is something that God has rescued you from? Read Jonah 1:4-17. Ask God to bless your study.

  1. What are some reasons we experience storms in life? Why did God bring the storm into Jonah’s life?

  2. In what ways can we see God’s hand in the pursuit of Jonah and getting his attention in this passage (Jonah 1:4-17)?

  3. How would you define God’s condemnation as opposed to his correction? How do Romans 8:1 and Hebrews 12:7-10 apply?

  4. The captain and sailors called Jonah out on his identity. In what ways have you been called out or convicted about your actions not being in sync with your Christian testimony? How did Jonah handle being called out and how can we do the same?

  5. Kirk Franklin has said, “What God is doing in your life may not seem good to you, but it’s good for you.” Share how you’ve experienced this in your life. When and how did God use a sense of abandonment and emptiness to awaken you to the danger of pursuing and trusting in other things more than God?

  6. Read Romans 8:28-29, and Romans 8:38-39 and discuss how this helps us be assured that God will never abandon us.

  7. How do you want to thank the Lord right now for all the remarkable ways he has delivered you?
