Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about God?
1. Why does God throughout scripture refer to humans as being like ‘sheep’? How do you feel about being compared to sheep? How does this comparison to sheep help us?
2. Why was God angry with the "shepherds" of Israel ( Ezekiel 34:1-2)? What needs of the people were being overlooked by their shepherds (the civic and religious leaders), and in what condition did God find his sheep ( Ezekiel 34:4-6)?
3. According to the description of these bad shepherds, what was the main reason for the leadership crisis?
4. Why is it important that shepherds/leaders give their followers both truth and love. Describe how shepherding people as good leaders is carried out in each of the three human institutions that God has established (Family, Church, Nation)?
5. All humans, as fallen sheep, are imperfect shepherd-leaders. How then did God take matter into his own hands, as it were, and fulfill the prophecy of Ezekiel 34:11-12, 23?
6. Read John 10:1-18 and discuss how Jesus, as our Great Shepherd, perfectly gives his followers both truth and love. In Revelation 7:17, the Apostle John spoke of seeing Jesus as a Lamb and a Shepherd. How can Jesus be both?
7. esus wants his rescued sheep to also grow to be more like him as a shepherd. What are some ways this week that you can come along side the lost and hurting to shepherd and share both the truth and love of Jesus with them?
