Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. Can you think of a time when you relied on someone else’s wisdom? When was that? Where did their wisdom come from?
Pray and ask God to bless your study.
1. Read 1 Corinthians 1:20-25. What does the phrase “debater of this age” mean? How has “God made foolish the wisdom of the world”?
2. As you think about the questions that youth from Solid Rock Youth asked during the Asking for a Friend series, are there questions about God, about the Bible, about theology, or about how we can follow Jesus in the world… questions that you want wise answers for? How can you find those answers?
3. As we seek answers, why is it a comfort to know that God has unlimited knowledge and unlimited wisdom? How have you relied on this comfort in your life?
4. Read Jeremiah 10:12-13. Reflect briefly on ways that you can see the wisdom of God in creation.
5. Read Colossians 1:15-20. In the sermon we talked about how seeing God’s wisdom applied in creation is like seeing the footsteps of God and seeing God’s wisdom in redemption is like seeing the face of God - Jesus. Looking at your own life, how can you see God’s footsteps leading you toward a relationship with Jesus?
6. Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 that a wise person builds their life on his teachings. Discuss how the teaching and wisdom of Jesus is different that the teaching and wisdom you see in the world.
7. In James 1:5 we see God’s promise to give us wisdom when we seek him through faith. What areas of your life do you need God’s wisdom for right now?
