Read Matthew 21:1-11 Ask God to bless your study.
1. When Jesus and his disciples came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, the Savior sent two of them on a special mission. What was that mission (21:2-3) and what message do you think Jesus was giving by fulfilling this (21:4-5)?
2. The whole city of Jerusalem was stirred as Jesus and the crowds entered the city. What was the crowd’s question in 21:10? What answer came back? Why do you think that later the praises of the crowd would soon be shouts of ‘Crucify him!’?
3. How do you treat Jesus as King in your life? In what areas of obedience and submission do you find hardest to honour him?
4. What was significant about three of David’s mighty men (2 Samuel 23) going behind enemy lines to bring their king back a cup of water from a well in Bethlehem? How does King Jesus, coming into the world, and riding into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, knowing it would cost him his life to bring us living water and eternal salvation, inspire you to obey and submit?
5. In our faithful allegiance to King Jesus we need to be joyfully ready to obey and submit, but what other blessed benefits come from remembering what John Newton wrote in a hymn, ‘You are coming to a King, Large petitions with you bring; For His grace and power are such, None can ever ask too much’?
