Reflection & Discussion

Warm-up. What’s a favourite psalm, hymn, or spiritual song?

Read Ephesians 5:15-21 Ask God to bless your study.

  1. Since musical preference is personal, how can we decide which music is appropriate for worship? What criteria apply?

  2. Why do you think there is such diversity in church music? How has God used music in your spiritual formation?

  3. What is more important to you, singing from the heart or singing well and why?

  4. In what ways does the sovereignty of God (that he’s in control of all things) help us as Christians to be thankful even in times of sorrow and suffering?

  5. Why is ingratitude and grumbling grievous to God and dangerous for us (Rom. 1:21; 1 Cor. 10:9-12)?

  6. What we worship shapes us. We become what we worship. How does the Holy Spirit shape (sanctify) us into the likeness of Christ Jesus (John 14:25-26; 2 Corinthians 3:18)? In what ways and areas of your life is the Spirit at work?

  7. How does a “reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21) motivate us to submit to one another? What are some practical ways Christians submit to one another in the ministry and fellowship of the church?
