Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. What’s your favourite holiday? Why?
Read: Col 3:1-15. Ask God to bless your study.
1. The believer’s life is radically changed from the old life. Find at least four ways in 3:1-4 that things have changed.
2. If you have been identified with Christ in his death and resurrection (3:1) and Christ is seated at the right hand of God, what does that say about your own relationship with God?
3. Practically, how can we seek and set our minds on the things above (3:1-2)? What holy habits can daily help the process?
4. What will happen when believers “appear with him in glory” (3:4)? (See 1 Cor. 4:5; 1 John 3:2; Philippians 3:21)
5. Do you think taking off the old self and putting on the new self sometimes requires great effort, or is it a simple task? Why?
6. How would you advise a Christian who said, “I feel so weak when I’m tempted; I just can’t resist” (1 Cor. 10:13)?
7. How do 1:21-22 and 2:13-14 help you understand what it means to “forgive as the Lord forgave you” (3:13)?
8. What does “bear with each other” mean (3:13)? How does getting involved with other Christians in a church help us develop compassion, gentleness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, and so on?
9. And above all, we must put on love. How does love bind all the other Christian graces together (3:14)?
