Warm-up. What spring activities to you enjoy most?

Read: 1 John 2:7-17; 1 John 4:7-12. Ask God to bless your study.

1. Compare 1 John 4:8 to John 4:24; Hebrews 12:29; and 1 John 1:5. What do we know about God’s essential nature?

2. Why is it important to remember that God is both light (truth, holiness) and love?

3. What does it mean to say that God is love? What amazes you most about God’s love?

4. “No one has ever seen God” (1 John 4:12), for he is a holy and incomprehensible Spirit (Exodus 33:18-20; John 4:24). How, then, can people come to see what he is like (1 John 4:12; John 13:35; 17:20-21)?

5. “We love because he first loved us” (4:19). How does God loving us lead to our loving others?

6. Have you been in any way healed or strengthened because someone has chosen not to be offended by you or has made some loving sacrifice for you?

7. How have you experienced God’s love recently?

8. Who do you know who needs to hear about God’s amazing love? How will you share it with theme this week?
