Warm-up. What has recently brought you joy?

Read Romans 14:1-12. Ask God to bless your study.

  1. What argument does Paul give in 14:1-3 for them to accept one another? When have you found it difficult to warmly welcome and accept others in the church?

  2. What lifestyle rules do Christians argue about today? What responsibility do you have to be a good example for others? What practice would you be willing to give up if it proved to be a bad influence and harmful toward others?

  3. How would you distinguish between an activity that is merely permissible and one that is clearly immoral? How can a strong Christian use his or her strength to help other weaker believers in the faith without condescending to them?

  4. How can Christians share a spirit of unity and love despite having different views on certain practices and issues?

  5. How often does Paul refer to Jesus as ‘Lord’ in 14:4-9? In these verses, what difference should it make to know that Jesus is Lord of your life and your death and that you belong to him?

  6. How do you feel about death and the manner and timing of it?

  7. What do you want to be remembered for after you die?

Pray (Eph. 4) that God will help you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
