Warm-up. What’s your favourite thing about Thanksgiving? Read Psalm 84. Ask God to bless your study.
How did the psalmist describe his longing for God’s house? (Psalm 84:1-4) In what way do you relate or not relate to the Psalmist longing and passion to praise God in the Temple?
What kinds of distractions prevent you from looking forward to going to church? Why is it sometimes most important to worship with God’s people on those days when you don’t feel like going?
Psalm 84:3 mentions sparrows and swallows. Read Matthew 6:25-26. What point does Jesus make from ‘the birds of the air’?
It says in Psalm 84:7 that the blessed (v. 5) go from ‘strength to strength.’ Read Isaiah 40:27-31. What do these verses teach about receiving strength from God?
What prayer did the psalmist offer to the Lord? (Psalm 84:8-11) What did the psalmist choose over power or wicked pleasure?
How have you found purpose and peace - your soul’s sanctuary - in God? How do you feel about the character traits and promise of the Lord in Psalm 84:11?
What conclusion did the psalmist draw? (Psalm 84:12) Why do you agree or disagree with his conclusion?
