Warm-up. What deep, probing questions has God asked you? Read Jonah 4:1-11. Ask God to bless your study & fellowship.
The Lord has given us a mind which in Christ is renewed. If we are not to be ruled by our emotions, what place does passion and feeling have in the Christian life?
Discuss what the quote by Martin Luther means: “The curse of a godless man can sound more pleasant in God’s ear than the Hallelujah of the pious.”
We can blame others for the way we are and feel. We can even blame God indirectly for giving us the temperament and personality we possess, or we can blame our circumstances. These help explain things, but if the Lord asks us to own our moods and answer for them, what does that mean in practice?
The Lord has laboured over Nineveh and laboured over Jonah himself. What is his purpose in these ‘appointed’ activities and what does it tell us about God's character?
We are warned not to make our treasures on earth (Matthew 6:19–21). Why not? What does it mean to store up treasures in heaven?
In Luke 19:41-44 our Lord approached Jerusalem, saw it and wept over it. He was moved with pity for the people. Sadly Jonah scorned the people of Nineveh. How do you feel for the Annapolis Valley and the 40,000 people who live here?
