Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. If you lived in ancient times would you prefer chariot racing, running, or wrestling? Why?
Read Philippians 3:12-21 God bless your study!
1. How does the gospel of Christ’s righteousness, freely given by God’s grace, humble you?
2. What is the ‘prize’ that Paul pursues in verse 14?
3. Why is passion and discipline important to grow spiritually?
4. How can the constant reliving of past victories and successes be a hinderance to spiritual maturation?
5. Paul experienced the ‘surpassing worth of knowing Christ’ by decluttering his life to this ‘one thing’ (v. 13). What would those who know you best say is your “one thing”?
6. What one change could you make this week in order to progress in pursuing the one thing that matters the most?
7. How did Paul want believers to imitate him (v. 17)? Share about some Christ-Centred examples from the past or today who help you to passionately pursue Jesus?
8. What are some characteristics of the “enemies of the cross” in verse 18? How can you guard against being like them?
9. How does the truth of your ‘citizenship in heaven’ (v. 20), and the promise of Jesus’ return, affect the way you live your life?
10. In what ways can you pray for and support each other to run your race passionately, stay on track, and reach the goal?
