Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. What are some ways that God has grabbed your attention in your life?
Read Luke 13:1-5 Ask God to bless your study.
1. Some in Jesus’ day looked at tragedies and concluded that the victims must have deserved it. Why must we be careful before we say why we think a catastrophe has occurred?
2. Sometimes the righteous are taken away (Isa. 57:1), at other times the wicked are seen to prosper (Ps. 37:35 and 73:3-7). How can we make sense of such things?
3. How can we deal with the fear that a tragedy may strike our loved ones or us at any time?
4. Jesus said we are to live lives of repentance (vv. 3, 5). What does it look like to daily repent, and what are the benefits?
5. What are some evidences that a person’s repentance is genuine (Matthew 3:7-8; 2 Corinthians 7:10)?
6. What are the three essential aspects of repentance? (Hint: They all start with ‘C’.)
7. Some argue that repentance is not necessary for salvation, because salvation is by faith alone. What Scriptures refute this? How would you counter their arguments?
