Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. What are you most thankful for today?
Read 2 Cor 9:6-15 Ask God to bless your study.
1. Should you give out of obedience even if you don’t feel like it?
Isn’t that legalism? What kind of giving most pleases God (v. 7)?
2. Why do you think God loves a cheerful giver rather than one who gives great sums of money under a sense of compulsion?
3. According to vv. 8 and 11, why is God generous toward us? How does our generosity bring glory to God?
4. What do you think of Paul’s methods used to motivate the Corinthians to give to the collection of money for famine relief?
5. What three things did the Macedonian Christians do that so impressed Paul (see 2 Corinthians 8:3-5)?
6. In 2 Cor. 9:9 Paul quotes Psalm 112:9. What is the point Paul is trying to make with regards to the power of righteousness on relationships when we distribute freely (generously) to the poor?
7. In the final analysis, what is the most important benefit Paul sees arising from this collection of money (see 9:12-14)?
8. What fears do you have about money that influence how generous you choose to be? Read and discuss Malachi 3:8-10; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6.
9. When Paul says that Christ "became poor" for our sakes (2 Cor. 8:9), what does he means and how does this affect you?
10. What is one step of faith you can take this week that will lead to greater generosity in your life?
