Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. What was your nickname growing up?
Read: Col 1:24-29. Ask God to bless your study.
1. Paul says, “I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions” (1:24). Do you think this was true only of the apostles or is it true of God’s servants today? Why?
2. How would you rate your desire to be a servant who participates in suffering to bring news of Christ to a lost world?
3. Paul’s mission is to proclaim the mystery that has been hidden (1:25-27). Are people around you curious about you because there’s something mysteriously good and holy about you? If so, in what ways and how have you responded to them?
4. How does Paul help people become mature in Christ (1:28-29)? Even if you are not in a formal teaching or leadership position, what can you do to help Christians around you (family, work, church, neighbourhood) become more mature in Christ?
5. Why do you think Paul emphasizes that he struggles “with all [Christ’s] energy” (1:29)? (See also John 15:1-5; 2 Corinthians 4:7; 12:9.) If you are lacking in spiritual energy, what do you think God would have you do about it this week?
